DeMar DeRozan was reportedly promised by Toronto Raptors executives about a week ago during the Summer League phase that he would not get traded. Shortly afterwards, DeRozan was sent to the San Antonio Spurs in a blockbuster trade that netted the Raps the services of disgruntled forward Kawhi Leonard. And now, DeRozan is seemingly having an emotional rollercoaster on social media.

At the same time when the news broke out of DeRozan being shipped to the Western Conference, the shooting guard posted a series of intriguing Instagram stories, which are very much likely connected to the trade. Additionally, DeRozan has removed the “Living my dream in Toronto” part from his Twitter bio. DeRozan merely elected to use the space to express his Compton, California pride.

That being said, DeRozan still has a photo of him wearing a Toronto Blue Jays uniform as his profile picture on Twitter, so that’s a good sign that he still loves the city. After all, Toronto fans were loyal to him and it was with the Raptors that he became an NBA superstar.

DeRozan is not going to provide the Spurs the same kind of defensive prowess Leonard used to provide for the team. It’s a different story on the offensive end of the floor. A lethal scorer, DeRozan is expected to be the No. 1 source of points for San Antonio, though, he still needs work to improve on his 3-point shot.

In nine seasons in Toronto, DeMar DeRozan averaged 23.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists across 675 regular season games.
