The San Antonio Spurs had an epic meltdown on Friday night as they saw Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics storm back from a 32-point deficit to the 143-140 win in overtime. Spurs leader DeMar DeRozan clearly wasn't happy with the way they let go of the gas pedal in the second half, especially with 29-point lead at the intermission. He pointed to their lackadaisical mindset to start the third period, and this opened the door for the Celtics to make their improbable comeback.

Via Spurs reporter Jeff Garcia:

The Spurs gave the Celtics a sliver of hope to open the second half. With that, this gave enough confidence for Boston to storm back, especially with a professional scorer like Jayson Tatum leading the way.

Tatum exploded for a career-high 60 points, making 20-of-37 from the field and 15-of-17 from the foul line. His career ball game made the history books and the Spurs found themselves on the wrong end of his epic onslaught.

As for San Antonio, this was definitely a tough loss to swallow. If they could, they would have certainly wanted to re-play the second half and kept their foot on the gas pedal. The Spurs currently in themselves at no. 9 in the Western Conference standings, which places them right in the mix for the play-in tournament. They are a half game above the 10th seeded Golden State Warriors and could have inched to within a game behind the no. 8 Memphis Grizzlies.

Every game counts from this point on for the Spurs and they can't afford to have another one slip away like they did on Friday against the Celtics.
