The San Antonio Spurs will likely be without guard Derrick White for an extended period of time. He has been forced to the sideline due to a toe injury.

According to an official statement released by the franchise on Monday evening, White has been formally diagnosed with a “non-displaced fracture of the proximal phalanx of his left second toe” while a timetable for his eventual return has yet to be set by the Spurs.

“The Spurs medical staff and Dr. Martin O’Malley, who performed surgery on White’s left foot in August 2020, have confirmed this fracture is a new injury,” reads the team's statement regarding this matter.

Earlier in the year, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich revealed that White had been struggling with a sprained toe, a lingering setback that initially cost him the first four games of the 2020-21 regular season. White was then re-evaluated on Monday after making his 2020-21 regular season debut on Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers while ultimately being diagnosed with a fracture in his toe. White went on to score nine points alongside two blocks, one rebound and one assist against the Lakers before being forced to exit the Western Conference clash prematurely because of his ailing toe. Coming off the bench against the Lakers, the Spurs guard played a total of 23 minutes as a result of the team's 109-103 loss on Friday.

As it stands today, Popovich's Spurs are sporting a less than stellar 2-4 record in 2020-21 with San Antonio slated to take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday evening.
