San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has a hilarious response to Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone.

Popovich responded in jest to Malone's Bobby Fischer comments after the Nuggets beat the Spurs, 108-90, in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series on April 24, per San Antonio Express-News Spurs beat writer Jeff McDonald.

Prior to Game 5, the Nuggets tied the series at two games apiece. At that point, Malone brushed off matching wits with the legendary Popovich, per PressMask.com.

And the chess match, hear, he's Bobby Fischer. He's a savant. I'm not fearful about matching wits with Gregg Popovich.

Comparing Popovich to Fischer, a former world champion in chess, is interesting, to say the least.

Popovich has been at the helm in San Antonio since 1996. He's also a five-time NBA champion coach and three-time NBA Coach of the Year.

Popovich has seen everything. There's no question he's acquired so much basketball knowledge in the 23 years he's been Spurs head coach. Malone can't help but tip his hat off to Popovich.

Denver won Game 4 at the AT&T Center, 117-103. Prior to that, the Nuggets had not beaten San Antonio on the road in seven years.

With the Nuggets' most recent victory, they beaten the Spurs two consecutive times on their home arena. Denver is also just one win away from winning its first opening round playoff series since 2009.

Was Game 5 Gregg Popovich's best Bobby Fischer impression? Was that his way of saying Malone has outcoached him in this series? Denver may have a 3-2 series lead, but it's far from over. Not with Popovich around.

Game 6 can't come soon enough.
