The San Antonio Spurs haven't been performing up to par over the last two seasons. Despite this, legendary head coach Gregg Popovich is proud of his current crop of players.

After their tough 116-111 loss to the Miami Heat on Wednesday, Popovich expressed how much he loves his team. He knows that they're struggling, but Coach Pop is also confident in their ability to bounce back and be better than before.

“I love this group,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said, per the Associated Press. “They might go through a bad period for three or four or five minutes, but they keep playing. They don’t give in and we’re just trying to reduce mistakes, get more experience for some guys and it’s paying off slowly but surely.”

The Spurs currently sport a 31-30 record for ninth in the West. They still have a very good chance at making the playoffs, though they might have to qualify through the play-in tournament.

Failing to make the playoffs would mark their second consecutive year to miss it. If so, then it would be the first time in franchise history. To recall, the Spurs didn't qualify to the postseason in 2019-20, breaking the legendary 22-season streak of Popovich

Many claim that the Spurs and Popovich are finally over and done with. After the exit of the big three, the Spurs slowly went downhill. The nail in the coffin seems to have been their fallout with Kawhi Leonard.

Amid all that, Popovich doesn't seem bothered by the franchise's future. He knows that if he continues focusing on the development of his players, then the Spurs will be back to elite status in no time.
