The San Antonio Spurs were hoping to stay in the win column for a change in their matchup versus the struggling Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. Unfortunately, it ended with one of the more embarrassing losses of the 2017-18 NBA season for Gregg Popovich's troops.

Although there were plenty of miscues on the Spurs' end, Popovich took nothing away from a Lakers team that has been surging as of late. However, he was still extremely upset with San Antonio's effort in the 93-81 loss, according to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints.

“They [Lakers] made those steals & got 32 pts off turnovers, so they deserved to win the game just on effort & will. I thought in that sense, we were pathetic, but as I said, a lot of it is a credit to the way that they played.”

It was an uncharacteristic night, to say the least. The most glaring issue in the Spurs' loss was undoubtedly their inability to take care of the ball. Most teams would be hard-pressed to find a way to win after giving up 20 turnovers in a game. Needless to say, San Antonio was no exception versus Los Angeles.

In all fairness, the Spurs were shorthanded with the absence of superstar forward Kawhi Leonard and veteran Tony Parker. As a result, Gregg Popovich had to dig deep into the roster to help keep the team afloat. Regardless, they still have more than enough manpower to keep up with the lowly Lakers. Despite their fluctuating play recently, San Antonio has managed to remain near the top of the Western Conference standings.
