San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has proven time and time again that he’s a difficult person to interview. But in some instances, he can light up a room by cracking jokes, sometimes at the expense of himself. Apart from winning games and NBA titles, deadpan humor is one of Popovich’s cup of tea.

That aspect of his personality was on full display once more on Sunday, when a reporter asked Popovich about his playing days as part of Merville High School’s varsity team. Apparently, to this day, the multi-titled coach still holds resentment to the fact that he wasn’t named a high school All-American.

“They should've made me a High School All-American. They screwed me,” he said jokingly.

Popovich also noted that he was a 6-foot-2 center back in the day. At that size and position, Tim Duncan would eat Popovich alive if both met each other at the post during the prime of their careers.

Popovich turned out just fine despite getting snubbed from the All-American team 50 years ago, but even five NBA titles fail to make Popovich forget that part of his teenage life. After all, we all have to have some sort of chip on our shoulder.
