Without Dejounte Murray for the entirety of the season, Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs have been fortunate enough to discover the gem that they have in point guard Derrick White.

White has flourished in his lead role as the Spurs' court general, averaging 9.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.0 steal per game in a much-improved sophomore season. But injuries have derailed his momentum in the 2018-19 campaign, suffering a heel injury in October and being diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in early February.

As the Spurs continue to solidify their playoff spot, Popovich can only hope to have White return to the floor the soonest.

In his absence, Patty Mills and Bryn Forbes have taken turns in holding forth the point guard position for San Antonio, but White's presence is much more vital to the team's success. The Spurs, as of this writing, hold the Western Conference's seventh seed and only a game and a half away from being booted out of postseason contention.

White is expected to return soon after the All-Star break, perfectly setting up a final push for a higher seed and, hopefully, continuing the franchise's 21-year streak of playoff appearances.

The Spurs started the season on the ropes but have regained momentum behind the contributions of LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMar DeRozan, a resurgent Rudy Gay, and White.
