The San Antonio Spurs finally put an end to their eight-game losing streak on Saturday, as they defeated the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, 111-104.

Prior to the game, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was asked about his thoughts on the the team's current slump, but as it turns out, the veteran shot-caller's mind was elsewhere. This is via Chris Sheridan of Forbes:

“It’s really unimportant. Will it look different when I’m done? No, not at all,” the 70-year-old said when asked about how he thinks his legacy will be affected by the recent developments within his team and in the NBA as well. “I’ll look at last week’s impeachment hearing more than I would basketball.”

Moments later, Popovich admitted that he was actually luring the media to talk about President Donald Trump's ongoing impeachment hearings:

“I was ready for you. I even set it up,” Popovich said incredulously to a couple of veteran reporters after he finished his formal pregame media availability.

Clearly, there are a lot of other concerns Pop considers equally, or even more important than the sport of basketball. The going-ons in the political sphere appear to be one of them.

Then again, this could also be Popovich's way to downplay the team's eight-game skid — the longest in his entire tenured career. Nevertheless, the Spurs were able to record the all-important victory on Saturday, so hopefully for them, this becomes the start of something good.
