San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, who will lead Team USA in the FIBA World Cup, has vowed to build ‘the best possible team' he can with his current players.

Doubts have been cast on Team USA's chances to claim the gold at the upcoming FIBA World Cup. This is due to the spate of withdrawals from NBA superstars. But in classic Gregg Popovich fashion, the legendary head coach dismissed such doubts and criticisms. His concern is to build something with the pieces they have and not with what they don't have.

“All I care about is who's here,” Popovich said, per Brian Windhorst of ESPN. “I've got a fine group of guys and we're going to get the best possible team we can. … This is the most satisfying form of putting a bunch of guys together and them have empathy and love for each other to form the kind of team they're going to have to have to beat some really good European teams.”

This is the first time that Gregg Popovich will be at the helm of Team USA. But not a single soul has questioned his lack of experience in the matter. Apart from an illustrious NBA coaching career, he's been part of Team USA's international campaigns in the Olympics and in the previous FIBA tourneys as well. In the FIBA World Cup, the Americans have won the last two gold medals under Mike Krzyzewski. Now, it's Popovich's turn to continue the winning tradition. No one is doubting his capabilities.
