In an interesting shake of events, the meeting between San Antonio Spurs maligned star Kawhi Leonard and head coach Gregg Popovich was not a direct response to the recent rumors of him seeking a potential trade, but rather one that had been scheduled for weeks, according to Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports.

The two met in San Diego last night, hoping to iron out their issues and some strained relationships within the franchise.

There's a large sense that the rumor was spread through Leonard's camp, who have been at the forefront of an internal conflict with the organization, one that has gone public since the 2017-18 season.

Leonard is reportedly “irate” at comments made by Popovich and teammate Tony Parker after the 26-year-old star took his time with his recovery from a quad injury, believing neither showed him any real support in front of the media and were rather distasteful in their approach.

While the Spurs are unlikely to trade him, despite his camp's intentions to lure teams into readying packages in return for Leonard, the defensive ace is aiming to make his hometown Los Angeles Lakers a preferred destination for the 2019 free agency period — likely playing out the year, now that he's reportedly 100 percent healthy.
