The San Antonio Spurs will be assigning rookie Lonnie Walker IV to their G-League affiliate Austin Spurs.

The Spurs drafted Walker 18th overall this year, but he suffered a knee injury during the preseason, which prevented him from making the opening night roster.

Walker suited up for the Austin Spurs late last year and averaged 15.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 12 games.

He was called up by San Antonio and made his NBA debut against the Toronto Raptors. He played for five minutes and had three points and a rebound.

Walker was already called up by the Spurs late last year but did not play when the team lost to the Nuggets 102-99.

The Miami alumnus has always entertained the possibility of being re-assigned to the G-League, according to his interview with Tom Orsborn of mysanantonio.com.

“It's a possibility,” he said. “It's my rookie year. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Pretty much just prepare for anything that happens. At the end of the day, it's about what's best for me and how I'm going to become a better player on the court.”

With the Spurs involved in a tight race for playoff positioning in the dreaded Western Conference, it will be difficult for Lonnie Walker IV to see significant minutes on the court. However, he's being patient and positive about his situation with the team.
