The road to the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup continues in September for many European teams. Many NBA players are deciding whether or not they will play for their teams in the September qualifiers.

One Italian player and San Antonio Spurs guard Marco Belinelli, has already told Italy that he will not be attending their two games according to E. Carchia of Sportando.

Italy will play Poland on Sept. 14 and Hungary on Sept. 17. They are currently second in their group with 10 points and they are expected to qualify, but not having Belinelli will make things tougher on them in September. Lithuania is leading the group with 12 points. Poland, Croatia, Netherlands and Hungary are all tied with nine points in the group.

Italy should be able to advance from this group, but anything can happen in these qualifiers.

Belinelli, 32, returns for his second stint with the San Antonio Spurs this season after signing a two-year contract. Belinelli is still a sharpshooter. His offensive repertoire will be a nice addition to San Antonio's rotation and it's possible that Belinelli might even secure a role in the starting lineup.

Some NBA players will surely play in qualifiers, but for Belinelli, he may want to get reacclimated to his surroundings in San Antonio. Belinelli was a late addition to the Sixers last season and he became a key role player. He averaged 13.6 points in 28 games plus the playoffs.

Belinelli shot the ball very well in Philadelphia by posting a three-point field goal percentage of 38.5 and an effective field goal percentage of 59.7.

Italian fans won't have the opportunity to watch Belinelli suit up for the Italian National Team, but they'll be able to watch him in the black and silver once the NBA regular season rolls around.
