The All-Star break is a much-awaited event not only for fans but for the players as well. For the vast majority of players that do not take part of the All-Star Weekend festivities, this mid-season interval is an opportunity to take a break from the grueling season. For San Antonio Spurs veteran Patty Mills, he saw this as a chance to head back home to his native of Australia to help out in the relief operations for the bush fires that have an adverse effect on some parts of the nation. This report comes from Chris Dutton of The Canberra Times.

Mills is a known activist in his home country, and instead of spending some much-needed time to rest and recuperate, the 31-year-old Spurs backup decided to fly halfway across the world to help out his countrymen. The bush fires in Australia have affected so many lives, and those affected could use all the help they could get.

Mills' most recent homecoming will be short-lived, though, with the 6-foot-1 guard expected to return back to U.S. soil for the resumption of the NBA season. The Spurs will be back in action next Friday, February 21st, and Mills should be able to take part in that one.

San Antonio is in a pretty precarious situation at the moment, sitting at the 10th spot in the West with a 23-31 record. They have not exactly had the best of seasons thus far, as they are currently five games behind the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies. It's going to be a tough road ahead for Mills and the Spurs as they hope to keep their playoff hopes alive.
