The San Antonio Spurs had raced out to an encouraging start to the 2017-18 campaign after winning their first four games, but have a hit a bit of rut dropping the last two straight contests.

It has brought back into focus the fact that the Spurs are playing a bit shorthanded with the services of All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard and veteran guard Tony Parker. Following Sunday's loss to the Indiana Pacers, former All-Star big man Pau Gasol voiced that he feels that there is a lack of familiarity among the roster, according to Jeff Garcia Spurs Zone.

“We have to do a better job of not putting ourselves in a position where it’s a coin flip at the end of a game,” said Gasol after the loss to Indiana. “Most of our mistakes are from not playing together, we have a lot of new guys on the floor and we have to be locked in every game from the beginning especially on the road because it’s too hard.”

San Antonio has had a few alterations to the roster this past summer as the front office inked veteran forward Rudy Gay to a two-year, $17.5 million, meanwhile key role players such as Jonathan Simmons, David Lee, and Dewayne Dedmon are no longer on the team.

This coupled with the injuries has created an entirely new feel on the roster. It has also put other players in more prominent positions such as forward Kyle Anderson and guard Dejounte Murray, who have both yet to play in significant roles as starters in their brief NBA careers.

That said, this could shift in the right direction once Leonard and Parker return at some point in the next few weeks. The fact that it is only a few games in the season give s it plenty of time for things to work themselves out over the year.
