San Antonio Spurs veteran big man Pau Gasol has a stress fracture in his left foot and is going to be out for a while, according to head coach Gregg Popovich.

Gasol has missed the Spurs' last 12 games and is currently in a walking boot. There is no firm timetable for Gasol to return to the court.

“He was (back on the court) and then they took him off,” Popovich said, via Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News. “We got a second opinion that it was a stress fracture, so they put him back in the (walking) boot.

“The players on the second unit miss him. They had a lot of movement around him. He’s a good passer and can find them. Him not being there has really affected that second group.”

Pau Gasol, 38, has played in only nine games this season. The six-time All-Star is averaging 6.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 51.2 percent from the field, 57.1 percent from beyond the arc and 72.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Spurs are 10-11 on the season, 12th place in the Western Conference. Gasol signed a three-year, $48 million deal with the Spurs in 2017. He is making $16 million annually the next two seasons.
