The season of constant suffering from the injury bug will continue for the San Antonio Spurs (37-27) for tomorrow night's nationally-televised game against the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena.
According to a tweet earlier today from Spurs beat reporter Michael C. Wright of ESPN, San Antonio has confirmed that they indeed will be without star forward Kawhi Leonard and veteran center Pau Gasol for Thursday night's contest.
“Official update: Pau Gasol (right AC sprain) and Kawhi Leonard (return from injury management) are out for Thursday's game at Golden State,” Wright said on Wednesday afternoon.
Gasol is currently dealing with a sprained shoulder and it sounds like the Spurs are going to play it safe with him for at least the next few days. He will be inactive for at least Thursday's game against the Warriors and his status for Saturday night's contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder seems to be in doubt.
In a recent article by Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News, the news about Gasol was not good following the team's 100-98 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.
“Spurs guard Tony Parker told reporters after the 100-98 win over Memphis that Gasol had sustained a “bad” shoulder injury and would likely miss the Golden State game,” Orsborn said.
As for Leonard, he's managed to play in only nine games this entire season and his future in San Antonio continues to be a bit murky.
The Spurs are currently the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference as of Wednesday afternoon and remain one-half game back of the New Orleans Pelicans for the No. 4 seed.
