A positive light came out of a San Antonio Spurs' loss last night as center Pau Gasol moved past David Robinson in the all-time scoring list. The Spaniard scored 10 points against the Portland Trail Blazers, inching past the 20,790 points made by Robinson.

Here's the historic mid-range shot that Gasol scored, via the official Twitter account of the Spurs.

Gasol, one of the best European players to ever play in the NBA, ironically hurdled another Spurs legend in achieving the historic feat. The Spurs would go on to lose this game, 121-108, but it was a night that the seven-foot big man would truly remember.

With the Spurs in dire need to regroup themselves after losing key players due to injuries early into the season, the team will look up at Gasol as their undisputed leader. With Tony Parker signing with the Charlotte Hornets and Manu Ginobili announcing his retirement during the summer, an experienced winner like Gasol is the veteran that the team needs.

The 38-year old Gasol comes from an impressive franchise lineage of dynamic big men. The finesse center is one of the ‘point-centers' that we have in the league right now. Project Spurs' Nathan Kudla noted Gasol's outstanding assist ratio last season.

“Pau Gasol’s greatest strength is his ability to get his teammates involved with his passing. He had a fantastic assist ratio of 31.5% last season, which was 7th in the league – the 2nd highest amongst bigs trailing only Draymond Green.”

Gasol is on pace to further take a step up on the all-time scoring list. He needs 89 more points to move past another legendary big man in Bob Pettit.
