Former San Antonio Spurs forward Robert Horry claims San Antonio is “not a destination where guys want to go play.”

LaMarcus Aldridge is the last big time free agent to sign with the Spurs, who are in danger of missing the playoffs this season:

“People forget, that when you are that good, you don’t get draft picks, so you don’t get better through the draft, and you have to get better through (free agents) trying to come there,” Horry said, via the San Antonio Express-News.

“They did that with LaMarcus (Aldridge) in (2015) and hopefully other people follow suit. But it might be they don’t… I hate to say it, but San Antonio is not a destination where guys want to go play.”

The Spurs are 23-31 on the season. They are in 10th place in the Western Conference standings.

Spurs shooting guard DeMar DeRozan can become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends if he declines his 2020-21 player option. San Antonio has to pray that DeRozan stays, otherwise they could lose him for nothing in free agency after choosing not to trade him at the trade deadline.

The Spurs have been the model of consistency under head coach Gregg Popovich. We'll see if they are able to reach the postseason again this year.
