San Antonio Spurs small forward Rudy Gay didn't play on Monday against the Boston Celtics, and the swingman could miss some time due to a sprained left wrist he is dealing with.

Rudy Gay suffered the injury on Saturday versus the Los Angeles Clippers when he fell on his wrist.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich told reporters on Monday he doesn't know long Gay will be out, but added that the veteran forward's wrist is not where it needs to be right now.

“I don't know,” Popovich said when asked when Gay might be back in the lineup, via Michael C. Wright of ESPN. “I just know he's not there tonight. Right now, that's all that matters.”

In his second season with the Spurs, Rudy Gay is averaging 13.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. The 32-year-old is shooting an efficient 51.4 percent from the field, 41.1 percent from beyond the arc and 84.8 percent from the free-throw line.

San Antonio will rely on Jakob Poeltl while Gay is sidelined. The Spurs acquired Poeltl from the Toronto Raptors in the Kawhi Leonard trade over the summer. He finished with two points, six rebounds and five assists on Monday against the Celtics in 20 minutes.

San Antonio defeated the Celtics by a final score of 120-111 to improve to 21-17 on the season.
