Rudy Gay was confident the San Antonio Spurs were going to get things together and make the playoffs before the season was suspended.

The Spurs have made the postseason a record 22 straight seasons under head Gregg Popovich. However, this season has been a struggle for San Antonio. The team went just 27-36 before the campaign was shut down because of the coronavirus.

Gay was looking forward to going on a late run and carrying over the momentum to the playoffs.

“Yeah. I knew we was going to go on one of those streaks where it would happen, and we would be there, I always felt, the whole time,” Rudy Gay told The Athletic. “So I was hoping, and then usually we do, just go and straighten it out before the playoffs.”

It would be such a strange sight not to see the Spurs in the playoffs. This is a franchise which is the pure definition of consistency and winning games.

For his part, Gay is averaging 10.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists on the season for the Spurs in 60 games. The veteran small forward is shooting 44.2 percent from the field, 31.4 percent from beyond the arc and 87.6 percent from the free-throw line.

NBA owners are hopeful of restarting the season in the summer. We'll see if the Spurs get a chance to keep their playoff streak alive.
