San Antonio Spurs veteran forward Rudy Gay has been upgraded to probable for Wednesday's matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans.

According to the team’s injury report, Gay has missed the last three games due to an illness. Forward DeMarre Carroll will not play on Wednesday as he's dealing with an illness.

Gay has played exceptionally well in his role coming off the bench. For the season, he's averaging 10.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 22.5 minutes. The 14-year veteran is shooting 44.8 percent from the field, 33.1 percent from deep, and 84.7 percent from the free-throw line. Big man Trey Lyles has been getting increased minutes in the frontcourt during Gay's three-game absence.

The Spurs will certainly need a healthy lineup as they get ready to face Zion Williamson in his NBA debut. The No 1. pick of the 2019 draft has missed the first 44 games of the season because of a torn meniscus he suffered back in October.

During the preseason, Gay was asked about his thoughts on Williamson playing in the NBA.

The Spurs are currently in the ninth seed in the Western Conference with a 19-23 record. They've struggled significantly this season on winning games consistently. As their chemistry builds up throughout the season, they'll most certainly be able to stage a run for the lower playoff seeds.

They're seeking to extend their playoff streak to 23 consecutive years, which would be the most in NBA history.
