San Antonio Spurs veteran forward Rudy Gay suffered what appeared to be a right foot injury against the New York Knicks on Thursday night.

According to Cody McCrary of the San Antonio Express-News, Gay will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks with a heel injury.

Rudy Gay has started a rest and rehab program and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, according to the Spurs.

The team announced Friday afternoon, that Gay underwent an MRI exam Friday morning after leaving Thursday's game against the Knicks with an apparent right heel injury.

According to the team, the exam revealed that Gay has right retrocalcaneal bursitis.

In his first season with the Spurs, the 31-year-old has provided consistent production primarily off the bench scoring 11.5 points on 47.6 percent shooting from the field with 5.2 rebounds in 22.7 minutes per contest in 34 games played with five starts. He has quickly stepped up in a prominent offensive role despite being less than a year removed from suffering a torn Achilles tendon.

Gay's absence will likely push Kyle Anderson in an extended role to help compensate for the offensive void. Although the Spurs have All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard back in the mix from a quadriceps injury, there won't be an increased push to have him play a larger role.

San Antonio may also look to lean on veteran guard Manu Ginobili over the next two weeks with Gay out of the mix. He has been averaging 8.5 points on 42.3 percent shooting from the field along with 2.4 assists in 20.9 minutes per contest.
