The San Antonio Spurs could reportedly explore adding shooting guard Wayne Ellington this summer via free agency, according to Jabari Young of The Athletic.

Ellington played for the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons this season. He began the season in Miami, was traded to the Phoenix Suns, and then signed with the Pistons after getting waived by Phoenix.

Again, though (Dejounte) Murray and (Derrick) White are could be an extraordinary duo on defense, the Spurs could still use help on the perimeter. During the buyout market, league sources tell The Athletic the Spurs did inquire about guard/forward Wayne Ellington who eventually signed with Detroit. Sources say the Spurs could explore adding Ellington again this summer.

Ellington averaged 10.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game this season with the Heat and Pistons. He shot 40.3 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from beyond the arc and 79.6 percent from the free-throw line.

The Spurs lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs in seven games. You can never have enough shooting in the NBA and Ellington is a consistent 3-point shooter. He's a career 37.9 percent shooter from the 3-point line and could fit in well in head coach Gregg Popovich's system.
