The San Antonio Spurs are hiring former player Brent Barry for a role within their front office, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Barry spent 14 seasons in the NBA, four of his last five with the Spurs during the twilight of his career. He posted 9.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game during his time in the NBA.

The native New Yorker has spent the last few years working as an analyst for Turner, making appearances on NBA TV and TNT.

The 46-year-old had been considered for front-office roles in the past, but this is one that will suit him well, alongside a veteran general manager like R.C. Buford and the longest-tenured coach in the league in Gregg Popovich.

Affectionately known as “Bones” for his lanky frame, Barry will be in a familiar place with the Spurs organization, taking a team that isn't rebuilding but retooling after a drama-filled season marred by a quick playoff exit last season.

The Spurs have the task of shuffling the pieces after the departures of Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, plus the trade of two of their system cogs in All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge will now lead the team into the future under Popovich, though it is unclear just how long Pop will be around.
