In an official statement that was released on Tuesday afternoon, the San Antonio Spurs announced a pair of leadership changes. R.C. Buford has been promoted to the team's CEO, and Brian Wright will serve as general manager.

Buford, now 58 years of age, has been with the Spurs organization for 29 years. His first stint with the team came in 1988, when he served as an assistant under then-head coach Larry Brown. In 1994, after brief stints with the L.A. Clippers and Florida Gators, he returned to San Antonio as a member of Gregg Popovich's staff.

Buford went on to serve several roles with the Spurs, including Director of Scouting, vice president and general manager. And in 2008, he was promoted to President of Sports Franchises.

“RC Buford is one of the most highly-respected leaders in professional sports,” said Spurs Sports & Entertainment Chairman Peter J. Holt in the Spurs' official press release. “His vision, innovation and drive have helped shape our values and culture. We are thrilled to have RC leading the organization into the future.”

The Spurs also announced the promotion of Brian Wright to general manager. Wright, who spent 10 seasons with the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons before being named San Antonio's assistant GM in 2016, will be tasked with managing the team's day-to-day basketball operations.

San Antonio finished the 2018-19 regular season campaign with a 48-34 overall record, which earned the team a No. 7 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs. Unfortunately, though, the Spurs were defeated by the Denver Nuggets in the first round, 4-3.
