With the playoffs fast approaching, the San Antonio Spurs have decided to bolster their lineup ahead of the postseason, agreeing to a deal with free-agent forward Donatas Motiejunas.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the signing on Saturday (via KENS5), and now it seems as if Motiejunas will be headed to San Antonio to provide the Spurs with some much-needed frontcourt depth. The 7-foot player from Lithuania was last in the league in 2017, where he played for both the Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans.

For the last two seasons, Motiejunas has been playing in China, and will look to get another NBA chance on one of the teams most stable and consistent organizations. After waiving Pau Gasol and allowing him to leave for the Milwaukee Bucks, the Spurs have been looking for help in the frontcourt. Currently, the Spurs’ only backup for LaMarcus Aldridge and Jakob Poeltl is Drew Eubanks, so the addition of Motiejunas will no doubt be relieving for them.

Originally drafted by the Timberwolves with 20th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, Motiejunas was traded to the Rockets on draft night and never quite lived up to his billing. In his five seasons with the Rockets, he averaged 7.4 points and three rebounds per game, shooting 52.9 percent from the field. While he won’t be looked at to be a scoring factor, Motiejunas will certainly be asked with being a force on the boards, especially during playoff matches against tougher Western Conference teams that feature some fierce big men.
