Unlike some of the head coaches in the NBA today, Steve Kerr didn't serve as an assistant to San Antonio Spurs legendary coach Gregg Popovich at one point in his career. However, the current Golden State Warriors head coach actually played under Popovich during his stint with the Spurs, which resulted in no less than two NBA titles as a player.

Recently, Kerr shared his admiration for the Spurs legend. According to the Dubs shot-caller, he believes that coach Pop's strength lies in his vulnerability.

“I've always felt that it's the balance between the vulnerability and the expertise that has made a really good leader,” Kerr said on a recent episode of the “Flying Coach” podcast, via Mark Dunphy of mysanantonio.com. “You mentioned being a Spurs fan,” Kerr told [podcast co-host Brene Brown]. “Pop embodies that. He's a very vulnerable person and yet he also embodies strength and courage.”

Kerr went on to belabor his point, stating that in his mind, Popovich is fearless in his display of his vulnerability.

“I understand these things are tied together, but really what knocks it out of the park for me is his expertise,” Kerr added. “He's not afraid to be vulnerable because he's really confident in his own skin and confident in his ability to coach basketball. That's the combination that I think every coach should be looking for.”

The Spurs coach may not always have much to say when addressing the media, but it is clear that he is the type that wears his heart on his sleeve — a characteristic that Kerr truly admires.
