Tim Duncan is joining Gregg Popovich's staff on the San Antonio Spurs.

Duncan is the best player in Spurs franchise history. He won five titles with Popovich, two regular season MVP awards, two Finals MVPs and was the 1998 Rookie of the Year.

Duncan made the All-NBA and All-Defensive team 15 times during his legendary career. He was a 15-time All-Star as well.

“It is only fitting, that after I served loyally for 19 years as Tim Duncan’s assistant, that he returns the favor,” said Popovich in a press release.

In 1,392 games with the Spurs, Tim Duncan averaged 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 blocks while shooting 50.6 percent from the field. He's arguably the best forward in NBA history and will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer one day.

Duncan will be able to help LaMarcus Aldridge grow his game as a post player, even though Aldridge is a seven-time All-Star. Having Duncan around DeMar DeRozan, Dejounte Murray, Lonnie Walker, Derrick White, Rudy Gay and the other core players on the Spurs is also going to be beneficial for the team.

San Antonio lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2019 playoffs in seven games. Now, the Spurs are adding one of the brightest minds in the game to their bench.
