Former NBA player Vinny Del Negro believes Tim Duncan — a one-time teammate of his —  will be successful in his new job as assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs.

Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Del Negro expressed his confidence in Duncan's capabilities as a coach. He believes that his legendary stature in the league will, without a doubt, contribute to his credibility. But more than that, his work ethic and innate desire to win will be the key factors to his success.

“He's a leader. He's going to get instant respect. Guys are going to listen to him. He'll put the work in because that's his personality,” De Negro said.

Del Negro also narrated a story where Duncan, who was already considered one of the best in the NBA, was still trying to work on his game at the gym. According to Del Negro, he has no doubts that the Spurs legend will put the work needed to succeed in this new chapter in his life.

As early as now, people already have a hunch that Duncan will eventually take over the head coaching position from Popovich. After all, the two spent almost two decades together as one of the most formidable player-coach tandems in history.

Whether this turns out to be true or not is still in the hands of time. However, without a shadow of a doubt, adding Duncan to the Spurs' coaching staff is a great move by a great organization.
