Spurs news: Rudy Gay ready for training camp after torn Achilles
San Antonio Spurs forward Rudy Gay said on Wednesday that he will be ready for training camp, per Rotoworld.
“Gay said that he feels ‘great’ after rehabbing from surgery to repair a torn Achilles suffered in January, adding, ‘I know a lot of people say that. I don’t think you’d expect me to say anything else. But I actually feel great.’”
Gay, 31, is set to take part in his first training camp as a member of the Spurs. He averaged 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in 30 games for the Sacramento Kings last year before suffering a season-ending torn Achilles injury. Despite the setback, he still opted out of his $14.2 million player option with Sacramento and signed a two-year $17 million with the Spurs in free agency.
Rudy Gay has been cleared to play since July and plans to have the “best comeback ever” with the Spurs. After being a starter for his entire career, he is expected to provide added offense as a key member of the San Antonio bench this upcoming season. He will also likely play more power forward for the Spurs despite primarily being a small forward.
