San Antonio Spurs swingman DeMar DeRozan apparently does not want to be in the Alamo City much longer.

Ben Standig and Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic were among the writers to conduct an agents survey on all things basketball, including potential trades and impending free agents.

One agent told The Athletic DeRozan is unhappy in San Antonio and could pursue an out. The same agent suggests the four-time All-Star could pursue a reunion with former Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey in Detroit if he leaves the Spurs:

“DeMar doesn’t like San Antonio and doesn’t want to be there. If those guys leave, they land with Dwane Casey in Detroit. That relationship with the former coach is strong.”

This is a pretty interesting tidbit, especially considering DeRozan has a player option for the 2020-21 season worth over $27 million.

Of course, if he is truly that unhappy with San Antonio, DeRozan could simply decline the option and enter the open market. But the situation might be more complicated.

For starters, there are not too many teams with ample cap space. The teams that do have space either are not contenders or likely wary of signing a 31-year-old wing who cannot shoot from the perimeter.

That is essentially another way of saying it seems unlikely DeRozan would fetch more than $27 million on the open market, and thus making it more likely he accepts the player option.

Is it possible the Spurs could look to orchestrated some kind of sign-and-trade? That option could be on the table, but San Antonio will hardly be pressured into moving DeRozan unless they feel the value is right.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how this saga plays out for DeRozan and the Spurs.
