The San Antonio Spurs reportedly haven't offered shooting guard DeMar DeRozan a maximum contract extension this summer, but they haven't ruled out the possibility of doing so before the 2019-20 season begins, according to Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News.

DeRozan is scheduled to make $27,739,975 next season. He has a player-option for the 2020-21 season. If DeRozan declines that option, he'll become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020.

But Popovich genuinely likes the group he has assembled in San Antonio, and after outsiders speculated DeMar DeRozan might be used as trade bait this offseason, all indications are that the Spurs value his presence and want to keep him around. They have not yet offered him a maximum contract extension, but they have not ruled out the possibility of doing so before the season begins, either.

In his first season with the Spurs, DeMar DeRozan averaged 21.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.2 assists. The 30-year-old California native shot 48.1 percent from the field and 83.0 percent from the free-throw line.

The Spurs lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2019 playoffs in seven games. DeRozan put up 22.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists in the series.

San Antonio will get starting point guard Dejounte Murray back next season. Murray missed the entire 2018-19 season with an ACL injury. Nothing is set in stone, but the Spurs will likely start Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay and LaMarcus Aldridge next season.

On paper, that's a pretty good starting five.
