There is optimism Marcus Morris and the San Antonio Spurs will finalize their contract, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

ESPN reported on Tuesday that Morris is considering backing out of his agreement with the Spurs to sign with the New York Knicks. The veteran small forward agreed to sign a two-year, $20 million contract with San Antonio. New York is reportedly offering Morris a one-year deal worth $15 million.

The Spurs traded traded forward Davis Bertans to the Washington Wizards to open up the midlevel exception for Morris. But the Knicks now have a one-year, roughly $15 million offer on the table for Morris, sources said.

The Spurs are going to be better than the Knicks in 2019-20. However, it looks like Marcus Morris wants to get the most money he can.

Morris played for the Boston Celtics in 2018-19. He averaged 13.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 44.7 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 84.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Spurs have DeMar DeRozan and Rudy Gay on the roster. Adding Morris would give San Antonio some really good swingman depth. It remains to be seen how this situation plays out, though.
