Amid the reported turbulence between San Antonio Spurs injured star Kawhi Leonard and the organization, comes a report that indicates the former Finals MVP could have been shopped to the New York Knicks, according to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

The notorious panelist on the popular show First Take reported back on June 23 that the Knicks were interested in Leonard. Today his colleagues' Adrian Wojnarowski and Michael C. Wright reported a rift between the 6-foot-7 All-NBA defender and the franchise.

“Melo and George was one trade, guess who the San Antonio Spurs called… the New York Knicks, and said they were willing to move Kawhi Leonard and clean house. But then they stepped back from it and changed their minds. These are all the things I knew over the last couple days… but I got it confirmed just a few minutes ago, yet again!

While Smith has not named any of his sources, the Spurs were on shaky ground this offseason, after signing Patty Mills in the very first minutes of the offseason — a big priority given the injury to Tony Parker.

Chris Paul, who was believed to be a major target, was reportedly hesitant to sign with the team in the offseason due to the belief that Gregg Popovich wouldn't coach more than just a couple of seasons.

San Antonio also was thinking of potentially moving big man LaMarcus Aldridge, though a long conversation with Popovich changed it all, after two years of underperformance by the former All-Star.

Leonard's injury was a big concern during the offseason and it is even more so now, after the San Diego State product has faced many obstacles through his recovery — lastly getting shut down due to the constant setbacks.
