The San Antonio Spurs are undoubtedly rebuilding after trading away Dejounte Murray. However, they are not looking to tear everything down right now. This means that Jakob Poeltl, who has trade interest around the league, might be staying put.

According to Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com, the Spurs are not ready to dump Poeltl just yet. He is not untouchable but the team is also very content with keeping him this season to complement their young players.

One general manager told Heavy Sports, “The sense we got is that, yes, they’re rebuilding, but they don’t want to burn the thing to the ground and start from there. Poeltl’s the kind of guy that can give them a solid presence inside and make things better from a competitive standpoint when you’re trying to develop the guys who are going to be out there with him.”

Although the Spurs should try to trade Poeltl, as his trade value will most likely deplete over the course of the season, they don't have any other strong options at the center spot. The 26-year-old is still pretty young, so San Antonio does not have to get rid of him right away.

The Spurs can trade Jakob Poeltl at the trade deadline after he helps San Antonio's young players. As a defensive presence and interior scorer, he can be someone to lean on. Eventually, though, the Spurs should try to recoup an asset or two in exchange for him if they don't plan to extend his contract.
