Tony Parker used to be just a teenage point guard from France playing in the NBA Finals. These days, Parker is 35, sporting a body that has been damaged by countless injuries. This season, the San Antonio Spurs point guard has battled with quad, ankle, and back issues that have limited him to only 35 games so far.

Apart from Parker, Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge, Pau Gasol, and Rudy Gay have all missed significant numbers of games due to various injuries.

Parker, however, is not feeling any bitterness towards the unenviable overall health status of the Spurs.

Via Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News:

Perspective from Parker: “For so many years, we have been so healthy, so I can’t complain. For the #Spurs, we have been pretty lucky for the last 15, 16 years…We just have to keep fighting, keep believing and stick with it.”

This is an interesting take from Parker, who is one of the most accomplished players in the NBA over the past 15 years. Over that stretch, Parker has been part of four championship Spurs teams, and has won a Finals MVP and got named to six All-Star teams, three All-NBA Second Teams, and an All-NBA Third Team.

Tony Parker

Tony Parker has tasted plenty of success, so he might not be as thirsty of winning a title today than he was before, though that does not mean he is not focused on helping the Spurs add another Larry O’Brien Trophy to their collection of five NBA championships.

Parker’s future with the Spurs remains unclear, as he is set to become a free agent at the end of this season, but winning a title this year is going to be sweet for one of the best point guards of this generation.
