Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, as expected, announced his retirement on Thursday, ushering in a new era for Art Rooney II's team. Rooney spoke to reporters on Friday and revealed the Steelers ‘desirable' quarterback plan to the media, via Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

These are interesting words from owner Art Rooney about the Steelers quarterback plans for the post-Ben Roethlisberger era. Rooney believes that finding a mobile quarterback “would be desirable”, tabbing those types of signal-callers as the wave of the future.

Rooney is right, as the next great wave of young quarterbacks- the Patrick Mahomes', Josh Allens and Joe Burrows of the world- all have a level of mobility to their game. Some added mobility at the quarterback spot would not only help improve the Steelers offense but could also help hide the deficiencies of their offensive line a bit more.

Who could Rooney and the Steelers tab as their successor to Roethlisberger? Head coach Mike Tomlin named Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins as possible names to start next season, though neither player has shown much mobility.

Owner Art Rooney's words seem to indicate that the Steelers' quarterback plans for next season could lead them to look for a Ben Roethlisberger successor outside of the organization, though time will tell what the franchise ultimately decides to do.
