Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is now expected to play against the Washington Football Team on Monday.

On Saturday, Roethlisberger was a surprise addition to the team's injury report, and was formally listed as questionable for Week 13.

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Roethlisberger practiced Sunday.

“As of 11:10 a.m. Sunday, Roethlisberger is still on the team’s injury list with ‘Not Injury Related/Knee' listed as the reason for his questionable status,” KDKA noted.

I'm not totally sure how a listing can be both “not injury related” and related to a knee issue, though it's possible the Steelers are taking it easy with the 38-year old QB amid a short break between games. Pittsburgh hosted Baltimore on Wednesday at 3:40 p.m. ET and face Washington at 5 p.m. ET on Monday.

The last time Ben Roethlisberger missed practices, in Week 9 (reserve/COVID-19 list), he played great in a 38-10 Steelers romp over the Cincinnati Bengals.

That said, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin doesn't seem to be messing around this week. After Wednesday's ugly 19-14 victory, Tomlin called his team's performance “junior varsity.”

Washington is 4-7, but pose a stiff challenge for the Pittsburgh passing offense. The WFT has given up the fourth-fewest total yards in football and the second-fewest passing yards (trailing the Steelers in both). Washington's defense is third in the NFL in sacks, featuring four different defensive linemen — Montez Sweat, Ryan Kerrigan, Tim Settle, Chase Young — with at least 4.5 sacks each.

After missing 14 games in 2019 due to an elbow injury, Roethlisberger has impressively bounced back this season. Without racking up huge yardage, he's tossed 25 touchdowns against six interceptions, while spreading the wealth around to multiple wide receivers.

Ben Roethlisberger would likely be the front-runner to win the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award, if not for the quarterback he'll be dueling on Monday, Alex Smith.
