Already likely to miss start running back Le’Veon Bell for a second week in a row due to a holdout, the Pittsburgh Steelers are also at a significant level of risk of playing on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs minus quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

That said, Roethlisberger allayed some fears when he showed up to practice on Friday despite a questionable label ahead of the Chiefs game, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com.

Roethlisberger didn’t join the team on the field during practices on Wednesday and Thursday after sustaining an elbow injury back in Week 1’s 21-21 tie with the Cleveland Browns. Against the Browns, Big Ben threw for 335 yards and a touchdown on 23of-41 pass completions, though, he was also picked off three times.

Ben Roethlisberger can use a bounce-back performance after that shaky outing against the Browns, and he could get just that against Kansas City’s seemingly faulty defense. In their 38-28 road win over the Los Angeles Chargers last week, the Chiefs allowed 541 total yards to Philip Rivers and company, with Rivers unloading 424 passing yards to go with three touchdowns against a lone interception.

In the event that Roethlisberger gets ultimately ruled out for the Chiefs game, the Steelers will appoint backup Josh Dobbs as the team’s temporary starter.

Dobbs practiced with the first-team in the two days in which Roethlisberger missed practice, but returned to backup duties on Friday.
