The Pittsburgh Steelers recently signed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to a two-year extension this offseason. So it should come as no surprise that he hopes to play through the 2021 NFL season.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding how much longer Roethlisberger plans on being the quarterback for the Steelers. According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, he hopes to play three more years.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger plans to play at least three more years in the NFL

Roethlisberger's goal for three years certainly makes sense considering it aligns with his recent extension. The veteran has come a long way since admittedly considering retirement a couple of seasons ago. It appears he is set on guiding the Steelers through all the recent changes they have made.

It is safe to say that Pittsburgh is content with Roethlisberger's decision. Despite the team's recent struggles, he has still proven to be more than capable of commanding the offense. The 37-year-old is coming off one of his best seasons after finishing the 2018 campaign with career-highs in passing attempts, completions and yards. At this point, there is no question he still has plenty left in the tank.

The three-year timeline will also give the Steelers ample time to find a suitable replacement. They have struggled to find a viable backup over the past several years. Perhaps this could spur the team to expend a first-round pick on a potential successor. Fortunately, they can take solace in the fact that Roethlisberger plans to be under center for the next few years.
