The New York Giants have decided to take the franchise in a different direction heading into Week 13. Two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning has lost his starting job, and that news has sent somewhat of a reality check to Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Although the Steelers are cruising right now with the team having won six games in a row, Roethlisberger knows that Manning's fate could be his in the near future. The fellow two-time Super Bowl champion said the following about what is going on in New York with Manning, via Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“It sparks the reality that that could be me,” Roethlisberger told the Post-Gazette Thursday. “They could do that to me next year or whenever, who knows?

“It’s eye-opening that you have to take every play, every game, don’t take it for granted, take it for what it is because you never know when you’re done.”

Before Roethlisberger played a single down this season for the Steelers, the veteran quarterback was openly was considering walking away from the game of football. Roethlisberger ultimately decided to play his 14th season in the NFL but seems to be coming to the conclusion that the end is near and his time under center in Pittsburgh is limited.

Unlike Manning, Roethlisberger's team is winning week in and week out. The Steelers are very much in the mix to win a title this season if they can stay the course and keep their stars healthy.

Despite the Steelers being in the hunt for a Super Bowl title, the team could very well be planning for a future without Roethlisberger beyond this season. A few other teams with aging quarterbacks might also be in the same situation or using the same mindset with players like Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, and Drew Brees not getting any younger.
