The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to have a surplus of talent in the backfield with James Conner and now Le'Veon Bell in the mix. It seems quarterback Ben Roethlisberger already has an idea of how best to utilize their new dynamic.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding how the pecking order will shake out. Roethlisberger said during an appearance on 93.7 The Fan the Steelers should do their best to get them both involved:

“Even when Le’Veon gets back in shape and is ready to go, why not use both of them?” Roethlisberger said. “I think that would be smart for us.”

Fortunately for Roethlisberger, there is good reason to believe that Pittsburgh intends to do so. They have indicated that Conner will remain the starter even when Bell returns. He has done more than enough to maintain a solid workload after rushing for 453 yards and seven touchdowns while tacking on 26 receptions for 257 yards.

Furthermore, there are a number of teams that have enjoyed plenty of success relying on a multi-faceted backfield. Last year's Super Bowl featured two teams that each used a committee in their offense. Bell and Conner would undoubtedly be one of the most talented 1-2 punches in the league.

Regardless, it seems to only be a matter of time before Bell gets the lion's share of touches. Before his hiatus, he was widely considered the best back in the league. Seeing as how he is likely playing his last games in a Steelers uniform, it would make sense for them to get the most bang for their buck. It should be interesting to see how their carries are split moving forward.
