Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was willing to do whatever it took to remain with the franchise in 2021.

The Steelers signal-caller's future seemed to be in question earlier in the offseason especially because he had such a large cap hit for the upcoming season. However, Pittsburgh came to an accord with Roethlisberger, restructuring his contract and professing faith in the veteran quarterback as the guy under center.

Roethlisberger elaborated on taking a pay cut Tuesday, saying it was his idea and suggesting he wants to give every remaining ounce of football he has left to the Steelers before retiring:

“If they wanted me back, I felt I could give them everything I got,” Roethlisberger said, via Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network.

Will Roethlisberger rise to the challenge and help the Steelers play winning football in 2021?

The 39-year-old put together what might seem like a decent season in 2020. Roethlisberger completed close to 66 percent of his pass attempts for over 3,800 yards and 33 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions. But the surface numbers are a bit deceptive.

Roethlisberger averaged just 6.3 yards gained per pass attempt, the lowest mark of his career over the course of a full season. His 60.1 total quarterback rating was his worst since 2013.

The Steelers are likely hoping Roethlisberger can have success as they prepare for a bit of an overhaul on the offensive line. Pittsburgh did re-sign JuJu Smith-Schuster and drafted running back Najee Harris, but the hogs up front will have to protect the veteran quarterback.

Still, Roethlisberger made it clear his heart belongs to the Steelers. He will try for one last hurrah with the Black and Gold.
