After a tough 2020 season, many are already expecting Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to play out the final campaign of his decorated career in 2021.

However, the Steelers front office led by general manager Kevin Colbert is still not quite sure regarding Roethlisberger's future as they are not well aware of the moves that the veteran gunslinger will plan to take beyond next season.

“I think Ben’s mindset is he’s focused on 2021 as we all are,” Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert recently told Pro Football Talk PM. “I think we all go into it. We focus on now. We see where things lead. Beyond that, none of us know.”

The Steelers looked like a Super Bowl-bound team after they started the 2020 season on an 11-0 record. However, they eventually had a major letdown in the latter stages of their campaign which led them to finish with a 12-4 record and suffer an early exit in the NFC Wild Card Round against the Cleveland Browns.

Roethlisberger concluded the season with a total of 3,803 passing yards on 399 completions to go with 33 touchdowns through 15 games played. After a tough exit, he then became eager to come back as he decided to play out his 18th campaign in 2021.

However, both Roethlisberger and the Steelers still had to restructure the quarterback's contract in order to retain the other free agents on their roster. Back in January, he already took the initiative to absorb a $5 million pay cut on the final year of his contract to help the organization form a competitive lineup next season.

“I want to do everything I can and made that very clear to them from the very beginning that it was my idea to basically help the team however I can this year,” Roethlisberger said, according to ESPN.

As of the moment, the Steelers aren't quite sure of the road ahead of them once Ben Roethlisberger decides to hang his cleats and call it a career. Until then, they are hoping to redeem themselves and have a shot at winning another Super Bowl title with their veteran quarterback next season.
