Last month at the NFL owners meeting in Orlando, the league announced a new rule that will penalize or even lead to player ejections for lowering their helmets to initiate contact, sparking controversy among players and officials.

Pittsburgh Steelers three-time Pro Bowl offensive guard David Decastro is another one of those players who is quite flustered about how this new rule will even be officiated at the line of scrimmage.

Via an article written by columnist Joe Starkey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

“I just can’t wait until the referees come into training camp like they do every year, and they show us the videos of what to do and not do in the rule changes,” DeCastro said. “I just can’t wait to see it because I have no idea what they’re talking about. It doesn’t make any sense to me.”

For offensive lineman like DeCastro, they are taught a certain way to block very early in their football careers and this change will make the players look silly, in his opinion.

“You’re taught from a young age, the low man wins. Get your head lower than theirs. It’s like the nature of the game. You might as well take the ball away while you’re at it,” DeCastro said. “We’re going to look like sumo wrestlers. Put our bellies against each other.”

Is DeCastro's stance a little bit too drastic or does he make a good point in regards to this particular new rule? It remains to be seen how the officials will enforce this rule and to what extent they will enforce it this upcoming season.
