Ryan Shazier has had an immediate impact on Devin Bush.

Shazier, Pittsburgh's Pro Bowl inside linebacker who will sit out a second consecutive season following his major back injury in December 2017, has served as a mentor for Bush ever since the Steelers selected the All-American inside linebacker with the 10th overall pick. Bush, during a recent interview on Sports Xtra on WSVN, was asked how Shazier has impacted him during his initial months with the Steelers.

“We stay in communication on a daily basis,” Bush said during an appearance on WSVN. “That’s like my big brother, honestly. He’s just showing me the ropes, the ins and outs of the NFL and how to be a man.”

Five years after Pittsburgh made Shazier the 15th overall pick, they made Bush the 10th overall pick, trading up 10 spots and sending a future second-round pick to the Denver Broncos to select him.

In Pittsburgh, Bush will be asked to be the quarterback of the defense, a unit that is trying to reestablish itself as one of the best in football after taking a significant blow when Shazier went down with his injury late in the 2017 season and never fully recovering.

So far, early returns on Bush have been good.

While it is still Shazier's goal to again play in the NFL one day, he has, for the time being, found new ways to impact the team's defense. That will only put the team in a better spot if (when?) he returns to the field.
