Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced on Tuesday that Devlin Hodges would continue to be the starting quarterback after he led the team to a victory against the Cleveland Browns in Week 13.

“Going on the road is something we respect, especially when you're working with a young QB,” Tomlin said, via Brook Pryor of ESPN. “Duck will continue to be our quarterback again this week. He's performed well in hostile environments, but he just doesn't have a big sample size.”

Hodges made his first career start in Los Angeles against the Chargers, but that was mostly a pro-Pittsburgh crowd. He also played on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals and that crowd wasn't very fired up either.

“Like what I saw in L.A. I liked what I saw in the second half in Cincinnati, but he'll be moving now into roughly his seventh quarter of road work. We respect it, we've got to prepare that way in preparation for our offensive unit.”

Hodges will lead his teammates into battle in Week 14 against the Arizona Cardinals and this will probably be his first true road environment. The fans know they are facing a young quarterback and will be even more fired up to throw him off of his game.

Tomlin has also tried to keep everything the same for Hodges and not throw anything more on his plate that could take away his rhythm.

“I told Duck I had a lot of confidence in his abilities and his preparation and his talent, so I wanted to display that confidence by not talking him to death, not having a bunch of additional meetings and things of that nature,” Tomlin said.

If Hodges continues to play well, there is no reason the Steelers shouldn't continue to start him and who knows, maybe they will find themselves in the playoffs.
