Dwayne Haskins is getting a second shot with the Pittsburgh Steelers after a tumultuous stint with the Washington Football Team. Although Ben Roethlisberger will be the No. 1 quarterback for the Steelers — no surprise there — Haskins can add to his case for the top backup role behind Big Ben with a strong performance in Week 3 of the NFL preseason against the Carolina Panthers on Friday.

The general expectation for the Steelers' QB2 spot is that Mason Rudolph has the edge over Haskins, but the latter has been making strides in the preseason, thanks in part to his communication with Big Ben and the receiver corps, per Matt Howe of 247 Sports.

“Yeah — I mean, as a competitor, of course you want to get with the guys that make the plays,” Haskins said. “I do a great job of listening to (Ben Roethlisberger) and having conversations with the starting receivers and getting to know what they like and how they see the field. So if that happens I just wanna be ready for it. And I’ve been doing some off-the-field stuff with guys as well, so I feel like I have a great relationship and chemistry with all the receivers. But if I get an opportunity I want to make the most of it.”

Haskins' best preseason game with the Steelers so far was in their 24-16 road win over the Philadelphia Eagles, in which he had 161 passing yards and a touchdown on 16-of-22 completions. Getting a nod from Pittsburgh to start against the Panthers, Haskins certainly is looking forward to the chance to put up another solid performance to impress the Steelers' decision-makers.
