Dwayne Haskins is getting another shot at straightening out his still young career in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although he has yet to take a single snap with his new team, Haskins is already dreaming big about his future with the storied franchise while still being an understudy of Ben Roethlisberger.

Via Teresa Varley of Steelers.com:

“Dwayne Haskins said he wants to take over for Ben Roethlisberger after he retires, but he has to work hard now and earn respect first.”

That's the kind of confidence the Steelers want to see from the former Ohio State Buckeyes product, though he clearly has a long way to go before Pittsburgh hands him the keys to the team's offense. For one, Big Ben has to walk out the door first. There's probably not much gas left in Roethlisberger's tank, but right now, he is still the No. 1 QB on the team's depth chart, whether that's out of respect or a purely objective decision.

Haskins has experience being a starter in the NFL, as he had a total of 13 starts in his first two years in the NFL, which he spent with the Washington Redskins/Washington Football Team. His stint in Washington was a tumultuous one, as he went from being the starter to getting demoted to a backup role due to poor play. He was also fined multiple times by the team for his off-the-field behavior with regards to COVID-19 protocols.

Haskins signed deal with the Steelers in January 2021, getting him another crack at proving why he deserves a longer contract in the future.
